Humorous Wedding Vows Steal the Thunder!

Humor is a natural part of life.  Everyone loves to smile and laugh especially when there are a great many serious moments.  Do you have a compulsion to see someone laugh when they’re day is gloomy or too serious?  Weddings are filled with meaning, poignant moments where tears are shed.  More people getting married are deciding to break from traditional vows and write their own unique vows.  These vows can be poetry, humorous, from the heart, or original.  A select few have begun to use humor in their vows to show themselves, to lighten the mood, or simply to get the audience involved.  Here are a few tips for writing funny wedding vows.

Funny is not enough.  The wedding vows still need to be meaningful to your partner.  You don’t want to have vows that are just funny and lack the words of love a wedding should have.  Being honest and being yourself are key factors when pledging yourself to one person for the rest of your life, but going overboard with jokes or humor may detract from the ceremonies meaning.  Your wedding will be a day to remember.  Find the line between being just funny and having meaning.  Weddings are about your love for each other and vows are just one way you express that love.  An example is staying with the traditional vows while inserting funny little statements like vowing to make the persons favorite drink for them, or inserting a funny story about your hobbies.

You should decide with your partner what is appropriate.  What you may think is humorous and loving may not be the same idea your partner has.  Your partner may want the more traditional vows and be offended by trying to lighten the mood with humor.  This is not to say you have to share your vows.  A lot of individuals want to have that loving surprise during the wedding, just make sure funny wedding vows would be appreciated.  Remember no bad surprises for your partner.

This goes with the next tip of being appropriate for your guests.  A wedding is a time to share your love to the world, especially the world of your family and friends.  While you might thing sexual innuendos or crude jokes are funny your partner or audience may not.  Keep in mind whom your audience will be.  If you have a lot of older folks who expect a traditional wedding they may not find the humor in your vows.  Like wise the parents of the wedding may not appreciate crude jokes.  While your partner may understand where you are coming from and love your uniqueness they may not appreciate offending the audience.  Your audience is important especially your relatives.  You might choose to use a traditional approach while adding humor.

The last tip is no inside jokes.  While a few guests and your partner may understand the inside jokes the rest of your audience may not.  It is true the wedding vows are for you and your partner, but ostracizing your wedding guests can be a major faux pas.  Jokes should be included that will have all guests understanding your vows.

Jokes do not have to be the only way to include humor.  You might decide your wedding vows should rhyme like a Dr. Seuss book.  Researching funny wedding vows are just as important as following the above tips.  The Internet has a vast collection of previous vows that might just inspire you and avoid the land mines.  Keep the spirit of the wedding in the forefront of your vows.  You and your partner will know what works well for your wedding.  While keeping the words a secret may be important to you, talk with your partner about their perfect wedding.

Most women have ideas about their weddings long before they marry.  They know the dress style they wish to have, the flowers they love, and maybe even an idea of the vows they want to say.  While some of these ideas may change the overall theme is important to women.  Knowing what your partner desires out of your wedding will help make the day perfect.

Funny wedding vows are a unique way to profess your love.  These vows allow you to be yourself, to lighten the sensitive mood in the right places.  Many tears are shed at weddings, and breaking through those moments with a smile may just complete the perfect wedding for you and your partner.  Staying traditional and adding humor is just one way to say your funny wedding vows.  The person you are marrying knows, understands, and loves you so being yourself while keeping the peace with your guests is important.  Breaking away from the traditional is not a bad idea, its all about having class while adding your personality to the most important day.
