All about Modest Wedding Dresses

What does a modest wedding dress really mean? The word ‘modest’ means ‘unassuming’ to some, to others its means ‘demure’ or even ‘traditional’ while some others may think a modest wedding dress is one that is cost-effective. A modest wedding dress implies beautiful, elegant, traditional, etc- and it means different things to different brides.

Modest Wedding Dresses that are Traditional
I think it would be safe to say that most modern brides prefer wedding dresses that are fashionable, sleeveless, and not very short. However, you might be surprised to know that many brides prefer modest wedding dresses which make them look lovely in a traditional way.

Both young and mature brides alike are choosing a modest wedding dress because they are getting married in a church that requires a traditional dress, or because they simply prefer a modest wedding dress.

They have access to a wide collection of lovely fashions that fit the style of almost every type of bride. From haughty fashion couture to ballroom dresses and from the beach to the baseball diamond dress, they can find the right modest wedding dress for their D day .

Defining a Modest Wedding Dress
What defines a modest wedding dress may vary slightly according to the perception of each bride. However, there are several varieties of a wedding gown that is typically considered less modest than others. If opting for a modest wedding dress, you may want to consider the design features of your wedding gown, like its cut, a noticeable neckline, its sleeve length, the length, back design, etc.

Modest Wedding Dress Necklines
Plunging, deep V-neck and halter style dresses are generally considered bold and more modern. Other wedding dress styles like a backless wedding dress, strapless, and off-the-shoulder-gowns are also often placed this category as well. Length is another consideration – with the increase in informal, summer, and beach weddings, shorter gowns are becoming increasingly popular. You may not be very keen on these style choices, but remember, it still leaves you with several options to choose from.

Your modest wedding gown neckline can have a jewel- neckline which is not only very attractive but looks elegant as well. You can also consider a boat neck or square necklines which are still modest but look pretty. Other choices would be sweetheart or scoop necklines which require that the fabric be cut slightly below the collarbone.

Sleeve Lengths of a Modest Wedding Dress
If you have decided that you do not want a strapless or a gown that is very revealing, consider three-quarter length, short, and long sleeves which come in lovely styles for a modest wedding dress. Dreamy puffed or poet sleeves, elegant pointed or right fitted sleeves, delicate tulip or cap sleeves - these are just a few choices in sleeve styles that can be appealing and attractive without showing too much skin.

Modest Wedding Dress Back Design
The back design of your wedding gown is important since  back coverage is used in many wedding dress styles, often in combination with beautiful jewel or high-necked gowns. Designs like Keyhole and scoop back are also considered fashionable and modest.

Modest Wedding Dress Length
Though modern times have seen a rise in casual and often shorter wedding dress styles, the bride seeking a longer dress will have plenty of styles to select from which she make a choice. Modest wedding dress lengths vary from floor to knee length which are still extremely popular designs.

The Waist and Cut of a Modest Wedding Dress
If you have set your heart on a modest wedding gown, you don't have to necessarily dismiss the idea of an elegant and tasteful dress. If a freer flowing gown is your choice, however, you can choose from a fitted lace bodice with a ball-gown, an A-line, or other skirt style that perfectly fits in with your idea of a modest wedding gown. For a romantic look, a satin waist with flowing skirt is a good choice too.
